Transit Waiting Environments

Buckeye

Tremont
The Tremont area has experienced a great renaissance over the past decade. This has included the influx of many new residents as well the preservation of the legacy and history of the community. As the community continues to grow and celebrate its history, new partnerships have been developed to foster community involvement and development. One such opportunity is the creation of three Transit Waiting Environments (TWEs) to be located in Tremont. This new program, developed by the Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority, focuses on creating a comfortable experience for the transit rider while also developing mini gateways into the community for visitors to the area. This is a significant project for GCRTA as they endeavor to take an imaginative look at some of the existing transportation stations throughout Northeast Ohio and better connect its riders to the local neighborhoods. This initiative focuses on augmenting the current waiting experience with a layer of customer experience that could include improved facilities and amenities, landscaping and the inclusion of public art.

The new TWEs will be located at:

  • W. 14th & Kenilworth
  • W. 11th & Kenilworth
  • W. 14th & Starkweather

The Friends of Lincoln Park are pursuing the inclusion of an art/literary piece(s) within the newly developed TWE that would enrich and enhance the experience of Tremont residents and visitors. The proposed art would focus on the uniqueness of Tremont and the cultural history of the neighborhood. The Friends of Lincoln Park would work with Tremont West Development Corp, ParkWorks, the GCRTA, and Cleveland Public Art to engage a literary artist (writer/poet/etc.) and historian to collaborate on the design related to the three Transit Waiting Environments surrounding Lincoln Park.  The artist team would work to develop site-specific text, poetry, writings, or historical content to be integrated into the final construction of the project Goals of the project include:

  • To heighten the experience of the transit rider within the Tremont area to better appreciate the history, legacy and unique attributes of the neighborhood;
  • To enhance the visitor experience to Tremont building on the goodwill that is promoted during the free public activities in Lincoln Park and the diverse retail and hospitality opportunities that exist within the community;
  • To engage residents in the communication of the assets and history of the neighborhood; and
  • To promote a sense of pride and ownership in all aspects of the community.
